Project Description:
This twenty-six unit building is on an infill site near the City and County Building and Library Square.
It provides a residential component to a very lively mixed-use neighborhood of retail shops, offices and restaurants. It was designed with interior parking at the ground level behind live-work apartments on the principal street exposure. The secondary street, Mortenson Court, is a series of townhouses which serve to enliven the street while providing a different type of housing to the mix. During the early stages of the design it was discovered that the remnant of an early street [ Mortenson Court ] existed as a right-of-way to surface parking at the block interior.
By placing the townhouses here we hope to revive the historic street through the block as market pressure builds to replace the parking with housing and other uses. The balance of the units are accessed via exterior street-bridges resulting in more that one exposure for views and natural light.
